History and Significance of Shri Shankheshwari Mataji
- The Sacred Abode: The main temple of Shri Shankheshwari Mataji is located in Rajula, Amreli district, Gujarat. According to local legends, Mataji appeared to the ancestors of the Kapol community centuries ago, promising them protection. Since then, generations of Chandlash Gotrij families have worshipped her as their Kuldevi.
- Meaning of ‘Shankheshwari’: The name is derived from the ‘Shankh’ (Conch shell), which symbolizes purity, victory, and prosperity in Hinduism. Her divine presence is believed to remove negativity and bring peace, much like the sacred sound of a conch.
- Patotsav: This marks the anniversary of the temple’s idol installation. It is a day of grand Havan, Pujan, and Mahaprasad, where devotees from across India and abroad gather.
- Tradition: For the Chandlash Gotra, seeking the blessings of Shankheshwari Mataji during life events like weddings, thread ceremonies (Janoi), or the birth of a child is a mandatory and sacred tradition.
